Welcome 2019
Statistically, 80% of new years resolutions fail by February. Considering approximately 55% of people make resolutions to save money and 45% to lose weight, that is a lot of disappointment to deal with so early in the year.
Perhaps this year a better approach might be to take baby steps instead of attempting giant leaps.
Instead of trying to change who you are, why not try a better version of yourself? Avoid saying, “I want to lose 20 lbs” perhaps try, “I am going to move more and make healthier choices with my foods”.
If we look at our daily routines, I’m sure we can all find one or two (or more) areas that could be improved upon. From getting more and better quality sleep to taking a moment at the end of our day to reflect on something positive… if it makes you feel better- you will be better.
Change is hard – but change is good
Some change in our lives is joyful, like getting married or having a baby. Other change though can cause us stress & anxiety. The only way to make our resolutions work, is to work on our mindset about the change. So how and where do we start?
- Create a plan and know where you want to go and what you want to change & why you want to make the change. Look at what’s working in your life already and try to do more like that.
- Find an emotional connection to your goal. Breaking the goal down into baby steps allows you to feel like the goal is more attainable. Surround yourself with people that will support and motivate you.
- Build good habits and tweak your environment so that the steps are easier to accomplish. The more you know how you are going to achieve your goals you will be less likely to cave in to cravings.
