What Exactly is Anxiety?
The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) says, “Anxiety is a very normal and natural emotion that we all experience. For instance, it is normal to feel anxious before giving a presentation in front of a large group, being unable to meet an upcoming deadline, writing an exam, or doing a job interview. Feelings of anxiety might lead us to question our confidence or seek reassurance from others.”
Selenium… the magnificent mineral
Selenium is a trace element that is naturally present in many foods. This mineral is important for emotional health and well-being. Low levels of selenium can lead to increased anxiety and depression. Brazil nuts (1 ounce or 6-8 nuts) contain 544 micrograms (over 700% of the daily recommended intake) of Selenium. Not a fan of the Brazil nut? Try tuna (3 ounces = 92 micrograms) or enriched macaroni (1 cup = 37 micrograms) instead. Enriched macaroni has B vitamins (thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, folic acid) and iron added back after processing. Fiber is not added back to enriched grains.
